A Journey into Data: From Curiosity to Career
A few years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined myself diving into the field of data. My professional career began with training as a virtual assistant, with roles in Billing, Marketing, and Support, where I worked as a general virtual assistant. In each role, I was drawn to finding ways to make things run smoother and more efficiently. It was the results of these little improvements that tickled my interest — and curiosity about how data could be used to drive change.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve worked in a data role, where I track, analyze data, and build dashboards to support my team. This work felt both challenging and satisfying to me.
Right now, I’m primarily relying on self-guided research to solve problems and bridge skill gaps as I go. While I haven’t yet mastered advanced tools like SQL, Python, or Tableau, I’m finding creative ways to uncover insights with the resources I have.
Each project becomes a new challenge to research, learn, and apply what I need to move forward. For each task, I’m driven by curiosity and the thrill of piecing together insights that bring value to my team. I’ve discovered that when you’re curious enough, the answers are often out there waiting to be found.
While I may not feel like a presentation talk pro just yet, I absolutely love discussing ideas and insights with my teammates. There’s something about turning raw data into stories that makes me excited to learn and improve every time.
The experience has taught me that progress isn’t about knowing everything upfront; it’s about staying curious, resourceful, and committed to learning. I’ve been making this work through my current research-driven approach, and now I’m ready to take it a step further by upskilling in some of the advanced tools in data analysis: SQL for powerful data querying, Python for in-depth analysis, and Power BI for interactive visualizations.
As I continue this journey, I’m committed to deepening my skills in data analysis, mastering dashboard creation, and learning new ways to make data come alive.
To be able to reflect on this journey and see how far I go, I’ll be sharing my progress in a new post every Monday on this space. From insights I discover to projects I complete, to the small “aha” moments in learning new tools, I’ll document each step of this journey.
This journey into data isn’t just about a career transition; it’s about building a bridge between curiosity and impact 🚀📊
